The Youth Employment Agency(YEA) has taken a giant step by recruiting six thousand, five hundred (6,500) Arabic Teachers under the Youth In Arabic Education Module.

The Arabic Teachers programme is designed to augment, improve and also promote the learning of Arabic and Islamic education in all communities across the length and breath of the country.

Speaking at the official launch of the programme in Accra the Chief Executive Officer of Youth Employment Agency Mr. Kobina Obu Beecham Jnr , noted that the noble initiative stands to support the Ghana Education Service (GES) in its strive to include the Arabic language in the examinable subjects at the basic and SHS levels.

According to him, his outfit has been mandated to provide jobs for the youth in the country.

This he said, the YEA has recruited the teachers to enable them receive monthly allowances just above the National Daily Minimum Wage ( NDMW).

The quest is to work closely with the GES to ensure the seamless integration of Arabic teachers into the GES after the two years of being on the programme .

Adding that, Ghana Education Service has an Islamic Unit which is responsible for Islamic education indicating clearly that Arabic Teachers are already in the system but their number is inadequate .

Hence the need for YEA to support the GES in its quest to addressing the human resource gap.

” This way , Arabic Teachers will be available everywhere in the country to bring education to all particularly Islamic communities . This i must say is an initiative from the President of the Republic of Ghana , His Excellency John Dramani Mahama”, he stated.

According Mr. Kobina Obu , the learning of Arabic like all the international language has become more important in the globalized world since its speakers extend several continents.

The Youth Employment Agency established by an ACT of Parliament 2015 , ( ACT 887) is the mandated state institution to develop , coordinate , facilitate and supervise the creation of jobs for the youth aged 15-35 years , male and female , able and disabled , literate and illiterate in the country.

More so, the Agency has various modules of which the Community Teaching Module forms part.

This is a collaborative effort with the Ministry of Education (MoE) and the Ghana Education Service (GES). Under this module two programmes have been developed that is the Community Education Teaching Assistants Programme and the Arabic Teachers Programme.
