Kwesi Appiah

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kwesi Nyantakyi, has revealed that there are advanced talks to reward coach Kwesi Appiah a new contract.

Appiah was handed a two-year contract in April 2012 and tasked to qualify the Black Stars to the World Cup in Brazil.

The ex-international met that target and has become the first indigenous Ghanaian coach to guide the four-time African champions to the World Cup.

Before that, his boys finished fourth at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.

It looks like the hierarchy of the Ghana football federation is satisfied with the performance of the ex-Ghana captain, who has chalked ten wins, seven defeats and three draws.

With his contract set to expire in July, Nyantakyi says it?s only logical that they tie down the coach as his work has exceeded expectations.

?The coach will be offered a new contract since his work has been very satisfactory,? Nyantakyi told Spice FM in Takoradi.

?If I am the only one to make the decision then of course, my stand is we renew the contract, but stakeholders will sit to discuss what is best to offer him.?

Appiah will be seeking to go further than the quarter-final berth chalked at the last World Cup in South Africa four years ago.

Ghana will play USA in their opener on 16 June before engaging Germany and Portugal.
