All-time leading striker of the Ghana Black Stars, Asamoah Gyan has announced his retirement from the national senior side.

Few minutes after the announcement was made, fans and lovers of the Kayserispor forward have been asking questions as to what ignited Gyan to announce his national retirement at a time like this.

It has emerged that the 33-year-old decided to call time on his national team career after it was reported that Coach Kwesi Appiah was set to name Andre Ayew as the new captain of Black Stars ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

According to local media reports, a furious Gyan confronted Kwesi Appiah over the matter which resulted in a serious altercation.

Following the latest development, the striker took to official Twitter account to make the announcement.

Gyan however in his announcement revealed, his decision to retire from the team is a plot to save the team from further mayhem at the 2019 AFCON.

“I also wish to retire from the national team permanently not pretending my presence would not fuel the purported undermining the country as seen under my captaincy”, said Asamoah Gyan.
