Nana Addo exchanging pleasantaries with Otumfuor Osei Tutu

NANA ADDO Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the 2012 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), says he has disclosed his future political plans to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and the Asantehene has blessed him for his plans.

According to him, he held a closed-door meeting with the Asantehene at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi yesterday, and disclosed to him what he wanted to do, especially, regarding his political future, and that Otumfuo was pleased to hear such disclosures.

?I have respectfully informed Otumfuo Osei Tutu II about what I want to do with my future political life and the King has accepted my stance and given me his blessings,? Nana Akufo-Addo stated at a gathering of chiefs in Kumasi, whom he addressed on the occasion of the Awukudae Festival which saw the Asantehene sitting in state yesterday.

Nana Akufo-Addo said he decided to first inform the Asantehene about his future political agenda before making it public. ?I wanted the Asantehene to know my future plans first before anybody else gets to know of it,? he stated to a rapturous applause from the charged NPP members and supporters who had gathered at the Manhyia Palace.

He stated emphatically that he did not take delight in recent wild rumours some faceless people peddled to tarnish the image of the Asantehene and the Golden Stool.

The NPP top gun, who would not go into details, urged the Asantehene not to pay attention to speculations about him and rather focus on his better plans to develop the country.

2012 Polls

Nana Akufo-Addo recounted how the NPP went to the law court to contest the results of the 2012 presidential elections which the party was eventually declared loser by the Supreme Court.

He said the NPP, which believes in democratic dispensation, quickly accepted the results of the nine-member Supreme Court justices so that the country?s peace and unity could be protected.

Asantehene?s Remarks

The Offinsohene, Nana Wiafe Akenten, who spoke on behalf of Otumfuo, charged the NPP to unite always and work harder to prevent all acts of backbiting and bickering in the party.

He also tasked the NPP not to forget about the party?s rich history as they moved forward, stressing the need for the members to always sustain truthfulness and respect in their fold.

The Offinsohene said any speculation meant to dent the Asantehene?s image, automatically affects every Asante person, cautioning those who peddled rumours about Otumfuo to refrain from their wayward attitude.

Accompanying Nana Akufo-Addo to the Manhyia Palace were party stalwarts like Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh aka ?Napo,? Manhyia South MP; Bernard Antwi Boasiako, aka ?Wontumi? Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman and other party stalwarts.
