Ajax Yet To Approve Westerveld As ?Keeper Coach'

Ajax Cape Town PRO Shooz Mekuto has revealed that the board is yet to approve the option of Sander Westerveld staying on as a goalkeeper coach.

It was originally thought Westerveld was set to become a player agent, but the Dutch goalkeeper?s future is now in further doubt following suggestions that he may opt for another career path.

?Once a player retires they always have options of what to do afterwards. There was always something he was thinking about once he hung up his gloves,? Mekuto said.

?Playing wise his days are over; there is no doubt about that. In his mind he has options and one of those options was to join one of his friends, that being Clarence Seedorf, at a player agency.

?They have wanted him there and his ability to speak so many languages also helps and it?s what they need.

?The second option came later on. He may want to stay longer in Cape Town and by that he could take up the option of being a goalkeeper coach at the club.?

Westerveld is currently back home in Holland and is expected to return to the Mother City on June 23, the day before preseason training starts.

?It doesn?t mean that it has been approved by the board nor does it mean the coach may want to have a full-time goalkeeper coach for the first time,? he adds.

?The option is there but it is not confirmed.?
