Ghana’s Western Region has confirmed 104 Mpox cases across 11 districts as of 15 July 2025, with Tarkwa Nsuaem emerging as the hotspot with 49 infections.

Sekondi-Takoradi follows with 21 cases, while Effia-Kwesimintsim and Prestea Huni Valley each report 10 cases. Seven other districts account for the remaining cases, and 20 suspected samples await testing.

According to data from the Western Regional Health Directorate, 56 patients receive home care, with 48 recoveries documented. No healthcare workers have been infected. Regional Surveillance Officer Clement Amankwah confirmed ongoing door-to-door case searches and contact tracing, alongside a public education campaign using local-language jingles and mobile vans.

Dr. Simon Frimpong Osae of Kwesimintsim Hospital urged revisiting COVID-19 protocols due to transmission similarities. While Amankwah acknowledged the suggestion, he noted such measures remain non-mandatory. The Public Health Emergency Operations Centre (PHEOC) has been activated to coordinate containment.

Ahanta West, Mpohor, and Nzema East remain unaffected. Health authorities emphasize all active cases are mild and stress tailored community engagement to curb misinformation.
