Gambia will host an international conference on Ebola elimination in West Africa in late February, officials said on Friday, Xinhua reports.

The event, scheduled for Feb. 26-28, is organized by the Sierra Leone Embassy in Gambia in collaboration with the Gambian Ministry of Health.

The conference is aimed at complementing the efforts to fight Ebola in Sierra Leone, said Soulay Daramy, Sierra Leone?s ambassador to Gambia.

It ?is designed to hold a soul searching discussion on the roots and branches of the cause of Ebola, its origins, effects and other complications?,? Daramy told Xinhua.

?We will have scientists, journalists, politicians, biologists and other renowned professionals from across the world to this Banjul conference,? he said.

?We are hopeful that such a meeting is essential to sensitizing the people both in Africa and beyond to ensure a proper comprehension of the issues surrounding this Ebola sickness,? the Sierra Leonean envoy noted.

?We have chosen Gambia to host the event because of its strategic location and the most important reason is that it is seen to be the safest and most comfortable venue since it is Ebola free,? he noted.
