Coach says the National Sports Commission is yet to contact the NWF

The Coach of the Nigeria Weightlifting Federation (NWF), Patrick Bassey, has said it is unclear if Nigeria’s two weightlifters to the London Olympics will undertake a training tour.

Bassey disclosed that the National Sports Commission had yet to communicate with the federation on the proposed tour.

The coach said that the lifters were already rounding up their training at the Owerri camp and getting ready to showcase their prowess in London.

“We can’t wait for the Olympic Games to begin, because my lifters are in high spirits,” he said.

Two lifters will represent the country at the London Games, following the two slots awarded Nigeria after the qualifiers in Kenya.

Bassey explained that apart from the two to be selected to compete in the Olympics, other lifters who do well in camp would also be in London in July.

The NWF official said that 15 lifters were currently in camp, out of whom the most outstanding male and female would be selected to compete in the Games.
