Residents of Sankore in the Asunafo South District of the newly- created Ahafo Region on Friday said the rehabilitation of the about 15 kilometres Kwapong-Sankore road remained a major development priority to them.

That, according to them therefore needed the immediate attention of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who arrived at the place with his entourage around 1000 hours to begin his three-day working visit to the Ahafo, Bono and Bono East Regions.

He was given a rousing welcome by the chiefs and people of the area amidst drumming and dancing, pomp and pageantry.

Describing the President’s visit to Sankore as very historic, the residents told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in a random interview that this was the first time a sitting President had ever visited the town.

The residents said they were hopeful that the President would personally facilitate a contract award for work to begin on the road which was dear to them.

They claimed, successive governments gave several promises for the rehabilitation of the road, but they failed to fulfill such promises.

From Sankore, the President would proceed to Kukuom, the Asunafo South District capital, then Mim and Goaso in the Asunafo North Municipality and Hwidiem, the Asutifi South District capital.

President Akufo-Addo would continue on Saturday, April 13 to Kenyase in the Asutifi North, Tanoso, Yamfo and Duayaw-Nkwanta in the Tano North Municipality and Bechem in the Tano South Municipality.

Whilst in the Ahafo, the President would visit the site for the construction of the Regional Coordinating Council at Goaso, the regional capital, inspect a One District, One Factory (1D1F) project at Tanoso, and hold town hall meetings with opinion leaders, identifiable groups and Chiefs and people of the areas.

President Akufo-Addo would depart for Amantin in the Bono East Region on Sunday, April 14 to commence his tour of the Bono East Region with a courtesy call on the Amantin ‘Manhene’, and attend an interdenominational Church Service at Atebubu, where he would inaugurate a new Health Insurance building and female ward at the Atebubu Government Hospital.

He is expected to hold a town hall meeting at Yeji in the Pru East District and pay a courtesy call on the President and Supreme leader of the Tijaniyya Muslim Council of Ghana, Sheikh Khalifa Ahmad Abulfaid Abbulai Maikano Jallo at Prang in the Pru West District.

The last day of the President’s tour would include; working visits to Techiman, Kintampo, Jema and Nkoranza townships on Monday 15th April 2019.

At Techiman, President Akufo-Addo would call on the ‘Techimanhene’, ‘Oseadeeyo’ Akumfi Ameyaw IV and inspect a site earmarked for the construction of the Regional Coordinating Council.

He would hold town hall meetings with opinion leaders, identifiable groups and Chiefs and people of Kintampo and Jema and climax his tour with a call on the acting President and members of the Nkoranza Traditional Council at Nkoranza.
