She said though women have innate differences, that should not serve as a stumbling block in their bid to create a formidable cohesive force that would culminate in the achievement of the sustainable goals and groundbreaking achievement in every facet of life.

She said ‘’our differences should make us a stronger group that can effect changes needed for equality. We need to support each other in any way we can, be each other’s keeper. One finger by itself cannot do much but together the fingers can be a powerful weapon”

Ms. Tachie- Menson who is also the Executive Director of Sheroes told this reporter in an interview at the sidelines of the international Sheroes Forum in Accra that women empowerment is not a destination but a journey stressing that ‘’understanding what enables women to embark on these journeys, what pathways are available to us, which routes we should take, and what assists us along the way is essential.’’

This reporter has established that objective of the international Sheroes Forum is to recognize and celebrate great African women who have paved the way and are inspiration to other women as well as bring together preeminent female leaders of diverse achievement from all over the world to share new perspective on key issues facing women.

Nana Konadu Agyeman- Rawlings, the former First Lady of Ghana delivered an address on the topic: Re-Defining the Rules of Engagement in Gender Equality. She spoke extensively on the role of women in the socio-economic development of their country including the potential and development of women and the girl child.

According to her, women would always face stiff opposition from men in their quest to be assertive saying that should not deter women in their bid to assume leadership roles and contribute their quota for the growth of their society and advancement of women.

Senator Babafemi Ojudu, an irrepressible voice in Nigeria politics deplored the practice where when women stand for political office in Africa they do not get support and massive votes from their fellow women.

He made a passionate appeal to wealthy women in Africa to assist their fellow women reach the zenith of the socio-economic and political ladder in order to end the scourge of poverty and underdevelopment among women instead of buying expensive and luxury mansions in Europe.
The ceremony was used to launch an initiative christened Elect Her In Africa.

It was jointly launched by Her Excellency Dr. Joyce Banda, the former President of Malawi and Ambassador Erieka Bennet, Head of Mission of The African Union/Diaspora African Forum. Elect Her In Africa according to Ambassador Bennet is an initiative to galvanize support for women to be elected women into leadership, decision making as well as political office positions.

The Forum was held under the theme: Re-Defining the Rules of Engagement in Gender Equality.
