The programme is an advocacy activity by the children to support the call for an increase in funding for improved water , sanitation and hygiene(WASH) services at the national, regional and local levels of government.

According to the Communication and Campaigns Officer Yvonne Kafui Nyaku, WaterAid has trained one hundred and thirty-five (135)children from seven Sub-Metros and 45 selected schools in the Accra Metropolis for the children’s speakers forum.

This she said, is the second in a series of activities planned to draw government’s attention to the deplorable state of Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) in most Schools and also garner support for the call for improved services especially in schools.

The Speaker’s activity targets policy markers , Head of institutions, and duty bearers in the WASH Sector at the Global and national level.

“It seeks to archive the following objectives: To offer children the opportunity to share their finding on the status of Water Sanitation and Hygiene in their schools.

-To solicit the support of Parliament lead by the speaker to demand for increase in budget allocation at all levels to fund quality WASH services in schools across the country.

And also, to evaluate the provision of WASH facilities in schools and call for the needed support to ensure sustainable and availability for children use.”,

However, the following were cited as the expected outcomes:
Detailed report produced from the presentation at the forum.

-Critical issues raised to form the basis of statements to be at the WASH Parliament. And action plan drawn to support advocacy work by children in their schools on WASH issues.

WaterAid is an international organisation whose mission is to transform the lives of the poorest and most marginalised people by improving access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene.
