Mrs Mona Hellen Quartey, Deputy Minister of Finance, has said any society that left out the wide talent pool of females undermined its effectiveness in the corporate world.Mrs Peace Ocansey-Colerangle and Mrs Nellie S. Monney,

She said that society either lost the benefits of balance in corporate leadership roles, or the superior creativity and problem ?solving capacities of diverse working teams.

Mrs Quartey who was addressing the 25th anniversary celebration of the Ghana Water Company Ladies Association in Accra, said the gender dividend defined success not only by what was fair, but by what was effective.

The anniversary, on the theme, ?Epowering Women for Development in the Water Sector? was graced by the first and second presidents of the association, Mrs Peace Ocansey-Colerangle and Mrs Nellie S. Monney, who are currently on retirement.

Mrs Quartey noted that sustainable development could only be achieved through long-term investment in economic, human and environmental capital.

?At present, it was recorded that the female half of the world?s human capital is undervalued and under utilised the world over??women and their potential contributions to economic advances, social progress and environmental protection have been marginalized.

?Better use of the world?s female population could increase economic growth, reduce poverty, enhance societal well-being, and help ensure sustainable development in all countries,? she added.

The Managing Director of Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), Mr K.G.Dovlo, in a speech read on his behalf, said the theme was an indicative of the association?s willingness to contribute its quota for the betterment of the water sector.

?The contribution of your association to this company, does not go unnoticed. Since its inception in 1989, the association has played a very significant role in ensuring that GWCL stays liquid.. through mobilising your members and the men alike, to embark on revenue collection exercises.

?No matter what the vision of a company is, it can never be sustained without revenue?and I can say that you are the reason why GWCL continues to run; you are the purveyors of life to this company,? he said.

Mr Dovlo said even though the female staff? contribution to the company was unquestionable, the fact remained that their representation at the decision-making level in the company remained very minimal.

?I would personally like to see women at the management level and at the Board level, where strategic decisions are taken. I therefore challenge you to make this a reality in the years to come,? he added.

Mrs Juliana K. Amposah-Asiamah, Acting President of the Ladies Association said members achievements for the past 25 years were a clear indication that when women were empowered they became liberated socially, economically and politically.

She therefore appealed to GWCL Management to abolish the kiosk system of collection and endeavour to acquire lands to develop modern offices and also develop a means of getting closer to customers to boost revenue collection.

She commended the efforts of the pioneers whose dedications and patriotism were able to nature the association.

Awards were giving to deserving and hardworking members.
