Mr Mohammed Amin Osman, President of Voice of Zongo International (VOZI), a community-based organisation dedicated to the development of zongos, has called on stakeholders to help to strengthen the organisation’s to champion socio-economic development.

He said the communities were bedevilled with many challenges that called for a united, stronger voice to help address inequities and poverty gaps existing between them and other communities in the country.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi, Mr Osman said VOZI, was formed in the United States of America (USA), by some group of people who had the welfare and development of Zongos at heart and were dedicated to assisting the people to address some of the challenges confronting them.

He said currently Zongo communities in Ghana were branded as hubs for violence, drug abuse, armed robbery, prostitution adding, “this is the time for us to come together and work to erase these public perceptions”.

Mr Osman said, in view of that, VOZI had outlined a number of activities to empower, sensitise the Zongo residents, especially in the areas of sanitation, entrepreneurship and skills development, education and others.

He said the organisation was committed to standing firm to re-orient zongo people to conduct themselves well wherever they found, while calling on the leaders in those communities, to support the activities of the VOZI to enable them to discharge its duties efficiently.
