Ho, Feb. 07, GNA – The 60-year-old single-storey wooden accommodation of the Volta Regional Health Directorate is begging to be relieved of the pressure to squeeze additional office spaces into it.Over the years, the offices in the Directorate have had to be partitioned to accommodate additional offices as the need arose. The Ghana News Agency gathered that the storey building used to accommodate the then Regional Organization, now Regional Co-ordinating Council, until it was turned over to the Ghana Health Service (GHS), some decades ago as its regional directorate. The architecture of the building pointed to the pre-independence era despite attempts to make it look modern. The age of the building is evident from the creaking of its wooden floor under the weight of human traffic.?It is no longer suitable for habitation,? the Volta Regional Director of Health, Dr Joseph Teye Nuertey observed at the 2012 Volta Regional Performance Review Conference of the Service in Ho on Tuesday.?The Construction of a new office complex for the Regional Health Directorate that started in 2005 is just about three per cent complete,? Dr Nuertey lamented. The new office complex project, close to the Regional Health Conference Centre overgrown with bushes, seemed abandoned. The Regional Directorates of the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Births and Deaths Registry in Ho find themselves in similar circumstances as the Health Directorate.GNA
