The Female Unit of the Kumasi Central Prisons has received a variety of items meant to enhance the upkeep and welfare of the inmates.

They include plastic buckets, plates and cups, sanitary towels, bedsheets, soap and detergents, disposal underwears, tooth paste and tooth picks, soft drinks and packed water.

Victory International Women’s Fellowship (VIWOF), the women’s wing of the Victory Bible Church International, donated the items in line with its humanitarian services.

The Reverend Dr Mrs Rita Debrah, the Ashanti Regional Director of the Fellowship, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said the gesture was one of the activities to mark their week celebration.

She said as a women-based organisation, the Fellowship saw the need to contribute towards the upkeep of the inmates, urging Christians to strive to pay regular visits to prisoners.

They should use the Gospel to resonate in them a sense of hope in spite of their unfortunate situation, she said.

The Reverend Ruth Addison, the Media Coordinator of the Fellowship, said the week’s activities include health walk, teaching and thanksgiving service, grooming session and the ‘Godly Woman’s Challenge’.

Assistant Director of Prisons (ADP) Christiana Asiedu, Officer-in-Charge of the Kumasi Female Prisons, thanked the group for being supportive of the facility.
