Vivo Energy Ghana Plc has signalled it could mobilise its wider Shell network to raise funds for a potential refurbishment of the Department of Child Health at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH), extending what began as a Valentine’s Day donation into a longer-term infrastructure commitment.

Managing Director Christian Li made the disclosure during the handover of syringe and infusion pumps to the department on February 23, 2026, as part of the company’s annual Energising Hope corporate social responsibility initiative run in partnership with medical equipment supplier Nivaansh Mediqas Ghana Limited.

“We are working with the department to see more because we also now learn that there are some refurbishment works that they want. So we will go together on that and maybe bring our whole Shell network to see how we can collect funds for the hospital,” Li said.

The commitment to explore network-wide fundraising goes beyond the scope of the immediate donation, which included syringe pumps and infusion devices used to deliver precise medication doses to critically ill children.

Paediatric Oncologist Dr. Ernestina Schandorf, who received the equipment, explained the clinical significance of the items. She said the department ideally requires one dedicated perfuser per child in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Emergency Unit to ensure every patient receives the exact medication dose their condition requires. The donation, she noted, moves the department closer to that standard, though shortfalls remain.

Dr. Schandorf also welcomed the company’s broader engagement beyond the physical donation, saying the presence of Vivo Energy staff on the ward lifted the spirits of young patients and their families during a difficult period.

Nivaansh Mediqas Ghana Limited confirmed it will support the donation with installation services and round-the-clock technical maintenance for the donated devices.
