Sunyani (B/A), May 4, GNA – Professor Mrs. Esi Awuah, Vice Chancellor (VC)

of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) in Brong-Ahafo on Thursday commended Mr.

Kwadwo Nyamekye-Marfo, Regional Minister for providing effective leadership in the region.
She said the Minister’s sterling performance in leading the Local Implementation Committee (LIC) of

the new University had not only made it possible for its take off in the 2012/2013 academic year, but also her job

as the premier VC “has even been made easier”.

Prof. Mrs Awuah made the commendation when presenting a paper on “The establishment of a Public

University in the Brong-Ahafo Region: How Far Have We Gone” at a dialogue session as part of the

four-day regional Policy Fair underway in Sunyani.

The VC described Mr. Nyamekye-Marfo as an epitome of knowledge in his career, confessing that, the

leadership qualities in him as Minister had changed her thinking and perception about politicians.
“Hitherto I was not going closer to politicians but my association with the Regional Minister has changed

me”, she said.

The Policy Fair on the theme, “Building Together in a Better Ghana”, is aimed among others at creating the

opportunity for the people to seek the right information and interact with policy makers and implementers

with the view to enhancing policy formulation and policy review.
It is also to afford Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), as well as Metropolitan, Municipal

and District Assemblies (MMDAs), the opportunity to showcase government programmes, projects and

achievements within the 40 months rule of the government.

Prof. Mrs. Awuah expressed appreciation to the LIC and the Regional Co-ordinating Council (RCC)

for their commitment to duty and co-operation with the Regional Minister towards the realization of the

dream to establish a public-funded University in the region.
The VC expressed gratitude to the chiefs, opinion leaders and entire people of the region for their

support in diverse ways that facilitated the commencement of the university.
She stated that the aim of the University is “ to provide higher education in science, technology and

sustainable harnessing and management of energy and natural resources through teaching and research to all

persons suitably qualified and capable of benefiting from that education”.
It is also to establish partnerships, disseminate and apply knowledge gained through research to address

the energy and natural resources needs and aspirations of the people of Ghana in particular and the world in

general, the VC added.
Prof. Mrs. Awuah said the University would also “provide technical and other skills services and

contribute to improving the management and use of Ghana’s energy and natural resources”.
The new University is also aimed at “providing leadership and be a role model institution promoting the

design and construction of energy efficient buildings and create eco-friendly environments”, she declared.
