If a survey was taken listing choices of what is most important to the American people:

1. Gay Marriage
2. Economy
3. US Foreign Policy
4. Education
5. Healthcare

Most Americans would say the economy is most important to them. That answer would be fine but it is not the most appropriate choice. People are conditioned to answer in this way. The economy has many aspects to it but too often is made to appear as if it can easily be summed up, measured with a well scripted politically expedient response.
