President of the Ghana Journalists' Association, Dr. Affail Monney

The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) on Monday received donations from two sponsors

towards this year?s Journalists Awards.

The sponsors were the United States Embassy and the Stanbic Bank,

each of which presented a cheque for GH? 10,000.
The United States Embassy?s cheque would be supporting the Anti –

corruption category of the awards, while the Stanbi Bank?s cheque would

support best journalists for the Sports and Business categories respectively.
Receiving the cheques, Dr Affail Monney, President of the GJA,

expressed gratitude to the donors.
He said GJA was grateful for the assistance, especially in these

critical times when such donations were needed to support the flagship event.
?This is a good gesture which we believe is going to last for

good to support and position the awards night on the platform it deserves,?

he said.
Dr Monney disclosed that this year, veteran journalists, as

well as media owners would also be awarded.
Mr Daniel Fennell, Minister Counselor, Embassy of the United

States and Mr Mawuko Afadzinu, Head, Marketing and Communications, Stanbic

Bank, both lauded Ghanaian journalists for their immense contributions

towards the development of the country.
?Only the best standards of journalism are good for Ghana, let

us continue to put mother Ghana first,? they advised.
The award which comes off on Saturday, August 15,

coincidentally marks the 66th anniversary of the GJA.
The theme for the 20th edition of the Awards is: ?Ghana in

Search of Reliable Energy to Power Development, the Role of the Media?
