Background

He was assaulted on Friday, April 10, 2020, by a uniformed military officer at Olebu in the Ga Central Municipality of the Greater Accra Region when he went to cover a fire outbreak in the area.

He said while working, men in military uniform onboard an ‘Operation Calm Life’ vehicle with registration 49 GA 68 arrived to drive members of the community who had gathered at the scene away in accordance with the lockdown rules.

According to Mr. Adoba, after showing his staff ID to the military men, he said he was allowed by one of the military men to go on with the coverage but few minutes into the coverage, however, another member of the military crew who was later identified only as Damfour, slapped Mr. Adobah from behind as he laid flat on the ground.

The uniformed military officer beat him severely but he was however saved when residents shouted ‘he is a journalist’ several times. Not only did he beat the journalist but also smashed and damaged his phone completely and sped off.

It took the intervention of his colleagues to make an official complaint at the Anyaa police station as he was initially frustrated by the officer in charge at the police station.
