The sudents presenting a citation to Dr K.B. AsanteThe students of the University of Ghana, Legon on Monday honoured veteran politician and diplomat Dr K.B. Asante as part of the 53rd Republic Day celebration.

The students, numbering about 16, paid a courtesy call on Dr Asante at his residence.

They lauded the diplomat for his high sense of patriotism and dedication to the development of Ghana.

The SRC president, Eric Edem Agbana, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues, said the Council decided to honour Dr Asante because of his exemplary work and his continuous dedication to the building of a positive society even in retirement.

Eric Agbana added that Mr Asante is an inspiration to the youth because he has distinguished himself in all aspects of his life.

The students were optimistic the current generation of youth can adeptly hold fort and move the country forward if they embrace the tenets of selfless service and patriotism as exhibited by the founding fathers of Ghana.

Dr Asante expressed delight at the kind gesture by the students, urging them to be worthy ambassadors of the country by addressing the ills of the society.

He cited the lack of knowledge as one of the biggest problems facing the youth and urged the students to read more and search for knowledge to deal with the country?s problems.

Dr Asante bemoaned the seeming indiscipline among the youth.

He also expressed dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs in the country.

He gave a brief insight of into his life and service as a diplomat and answered questions from the students on a wide range of issues.

The students later presented a citation of honour to him.
