A Tarkwa circuit court has fined Ernest Cudjoe, a student of Sefwi Wiawso Senior High School and Vincent Mensah, unemployed for stealing six car batteries valued 1,750 Ghana cedis.

They were convicted on their own plea.

Prosecuting Chief Inspector Florence Tawiah told the court presided over by Mr Samuel Obeng Diawuo that on the night of January 1, this year, the third accused person who is now at large drove an Opel taxi cab with registration number WR 253-Z with the two accused persons on board from Takoradi to Tarkwa.

She said, they then stole six car batteries from trucks parked overnight at Bogoso junction and New Atuabo.

She said they parked the stolen items into the boot of the taxi and set off to Takoradi but on reaching Bonsa Police check point, the officer on duty arrested Cudjoe but Mensah and the driver managed to escape.

Inspector Tawiah said the first accused was arraigned before court on January 3 and was remanded into prison custody.

She said on January 4, the Tarkwa Police received information that Mensah has been arrested.

Inspector Tawiah said upon interrogation Mensah confessed that it was the three of them who stole the car batteries at Tarkwa.

The Prosecutor said efforts were been made to apprehend Kwesi the third accused person who was driving the taxi at the time. GNA
