On June 14 Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Africa and Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov had a telephone conversation with UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Libya Martin Kobler at the latter’s initiative.

During the conversation the officials discussed the situation in Libya and related developments, such as the recent contacts between the leadership of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) and representatives of the rival camps in Tripoli and Tobruk.

In connection with the completion of his mission as the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Libya in late June, Martin Kobler expressed his gratitude to Russia for supporting the UNSMIL’s efforts to settle the political crisis by implementing the Skhirat Political Agreement on the parameters for national reconciliation in Libya, reaffirmed by UN Security Council Resolution 2259.

The Russian side confirmed its readiness to continue rendering comprehensive support to advance a political settlement in Libya, working with all interested Libyan parties to do so.
