Ukraine will get the humanitarian aid worth 60 million U.S. dollars from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) this year, the Ukrainian presidential administration said on Thursday.

The agreement on the allocation the assistance was achieved during the meeting between Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and the ICRC President Peter Maurer in Davos, Switzerland, said a statement on the presidential website.

According to the statement, the humanitarian operation of the ICRC in Ukraine will be one of the biggest operations of the committee in the world this year.

For almost three years, the ICRC has been helping the people in eastern Ukraine, who have been affected by the 33-month-long conflict between the government troops and pro-independence insurgents.

The aid included food sets, hygienic kits, medicines, water purifying chemicals and other essential life-saving items.

According to the UN estimates, the conflict has left some 3.8 million residents of eastern Ukraine in need of humanitarian assistance. Enditem
