Uganda People’s Defense Forces spokesperson, Paddy Ankunda, told Xinhua on Wednesday that Museveni has promoted Brig. Nakibus Lakara to the rank of Maj. Gen. and deployed him in Somalia on a two-year term as the deputy force commander of African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).
“He is qualified for the job. He is a well-trained and grounded seasoned commander, and a true professional and well-grounded in diplomatic missions,” said Ankunda.
Lakara, the former army chief of staff, has been the third division army commander based in the northeastern district of Moroto since July 2013.
Museveni also named Col. John Nsubuga, who has been the deputy third division army commander, as the commander of Uganda Battle Group 17 in Somalia for the next one year.
Brig. Dick Olum, the former Ugandan contingent commander in the war torn Somalia, replaces Lakara as third division commander.
Uganda provides the bulk of the peacekeeping troops in the recuperating Horn of African country. It has deployed its troops in Somalia since 2007. Enditem
