Okello-Ocero has been at the helm and will tee off today at the par-72 UGC Kitante course for the last time as captain.

For four other captains before him, Hima Cement funds a tournament in their honour. This year, they have sunk Shs42m, Shs12m more than the previous one, into the Hima Captain’s Prize.

Over 100 golfers have registered to take part in the 10th edition of the annual tournament.

“This is the prefect send-off for my two years. Players come and go. Members do the same but the foundation stays,” Okello-Ocero said.

He might not have needed to remind fellow golfers so much about the nature of the course. The recent sunny weather has made the course pretty dry, and fast.

Only club members of Kitante will be allowed to take to the tee and a host of amateurs are chasing a host of trophies and other prizes. That could be anyone’s title.

Flavia Namakula, fresh from winning the Entebbe Ladies’ Open, is the number one contender for the women while Deo Akope is the best bet to defend his title in the Shs4m professional category.
