Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has announced that the government is going to increase salaries of public servants in the country amidst mounting protests.

He said the government salary review commission is working and finalizing on the regularization of remuneration of all government workers before enhancements are made.

“Now that the economic situation in Uganda is improving, the government will be able to look into raising of salaries of soldiers, public servants, health workers and teachers and also deal with institutional housing,” said Museveni late Tuesday.

Museveni’s statement comes as the public medical doctors and state prosecutors are currently on strike over low pay and poor working conditions.

The strike has paralyzed the health and judiciary services provision in the east African country as doctors and government lawyers have stayed away from their respective duty stations. Enditem
