The University of Cape Coast (UCC) on January 18, 2014 won TV Africa?s quiz called ?Knowing Africa? Season IV, tertiary edition, which was held at the studio of the television station near Awudome in Accra.

Out of 16 tertiary institutions that entered the competition, two public universities, University of Cape Coast (UCC) and University for Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), Ho qualified for the final.

UCC and UHAS won GH?10,000 and GH?5,000 respectively.

A number of electronic items were donated by LG Somovision, the main sponsor of the competition.

Chapere John and Oliver Kofi Turkson, who received a trophy, represented UCC while Eric J. Tetteh and Daniel Sarfo represented UHAS in the five rounds of the competition.

UCC obtained 123 points to beat UHAS that had 118 points.

The Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ) placed third.

The Minister of Education, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, commended TV Africa for organizing the annual quiz for tertiary institutions.

Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang said her outfit was in support of such interventions, adding that they would boost the teaching and learning process.

Prof. Jane Naana Agyemang, a former Vice Chancellor (VC) of the University of Cape Coast, urged the students to continue to explore the learning environment, stressing that learning is pleasurable.

The Pro Vice Chancellor (VC) of the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Prof. John N Buah was happy that his outfit had won the award for the second time.

He stated that the university has the policy of ensuring the highest academic and moral standards for its graduates.

Prof. John Buah particularly commended the efforts of John Chapere, the visually-impaired contestant in the competition for what he described as excellent performance during the contest, adding that the university would continue to offer opportunities for students to excel in their respective endeavours.

Other dignitaries present were Professors Fred Benko (UHAS) and Kofi Ayidoho.
