Two men have been remanded into police custody after appearing before the Offinso Circuit Court in connection with the seizure of 350 compressed slabs of suspected cannabis in the Ashanti North Region, as police confirm that additional suspects linked to the same operation remain at large.

A day patrol team from the Offinso District intercepted a blue-black Toyota Voxy with registration number AS 1747-25 on March 25, 2026, at approximately 10:13 am on the outskirts of Offinso Old Town. A search of the vehicle revealed the 350 slabs of suspected Indian hemp concealed in four white sacks.

Officers also recovered two Ghana Cards, three driver’s licences, one voter’s identification card, a Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) vehicle registration certificate, an iPhone, and cash amounting to GH¢120. The occupants fled into nearby bush upon noticing the police, and the patrol team was unable to apprehend them at that time.

The following day, March 26, an intelligence-led operation led to arrests. On March 30, suspects Albert Nkrumah and Francis Owusu were arraigned before the Offinso Circuit Court and remanded into police custody. They are scheduled to reappear on April 27, 2026.

The Ashanti North Regional Police Command confirmed that ongoing investigations have already identified additional individuals linked to the crime and that the police team is actively pursuing them. The suspected narcotic substances will be forwarded to the Forensic Laboratory at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters in Accra for analytical examination.

The Ashanti North Regional Police Command assured the public of its commitment to combating drug trafficking across the region and called on residents to provide credible information to assist law enforcement efforts.
