Fire

Fire gutted two bungalows at Agona Swedru Municipal government hospital and a three bed room flat at nearby Wuraba Estate, destroying property valued at several thousand of Ghana Cedis.

There was no casualty.

Mr Famous Kudu, Operation Officer of Agona West Municipal Office of the Ghana National Fire Service told journalists at Agona Swedru at the weekend that it took fire personnel between 25 and 30 minutes to bring down the fire at the hospital to avoid its spread to other building.

He said the fire which started at about 1630 hours near the Maternity block compelled pregnant women and some patients on admission to run helter and skelter for their dear lives.

Mr Kudu said one of the victims, Apostle Clotty told the Fire Officers that he was in his room when he saw smoking emanated from the window of a patient and started shouting for help.

Dr Apetogbor Dzordzogbor, Medical Superintendent of the hospital, expressed appreciation to the fire service personnel for their prompt steps to stop the spread of the fire.

He appealed to corporate bodies, the Municipal Assembly, Central government and other organisations to come to the aid of the hospital.
