The Girne American University, a private educational institution in Turkey, which was established in 1985, is recruiting students from Ghana and other African countries for its bachelors, masters and Phd degree programmes, this year.
Elvira Sabirova, Director of International Marketing Operations, speaking to CITY & BUSINESS GUIDE on Monday in Accra said: ?This year, we are having a special campaign for international students from Ghana and other African countries. We are offering a 50 per cent discount on the tuition fees and also scholarships for students, who will be admitted for Bachelor, Maters and PHD programmes.
?In addition to the 50 per cent scholarship, if the student is brilliant and emerges on top of the faculty after one year of studying with us, they can apply for an additional academic scholarship which can cover up to 100 per cent of tuition fees.?
The institution has other campuses in Northern Cyprus, Singapore, United Kingdom and United States.
It offers over 54 first degree programmes in Education, Business and Economics, Communication, Engineering and Law, amongst other.
Since all flights to North Cyprus is by Air Turkey, students would have to go to the Turkish Embassy in Accra to apply for their transit visa first.
?We are expecting to have between 10 and 15 students from Ghana in the upcoming recruitment period in October.?
The school?s representatives visited Accra and Kumasi to talk to about 200 students.
?The major advantage is that we have different campus locations so when a student comes to study at Cyprus, and they decide to travel within the study of the programme, they can go to any of our campuses in the UK or in the US or in Singapore.
The school also has sports scholarships for some talented students in certain fields.
?We therefore decided to give this option to ensure that students will have access to the US or the UK schools through the Girne University.
?Our university should be an option for those students who cannot afford the fees of other universities in the US and the UK. Also, for those who cannot make it through their visa acquisition process.
The team is expected to tour Zimbabwe, Namibia and Uganda.?
