Italian police detained a Turkish member of an outlawed leftist group, suspected of killing a prosecutor in late March, local Daily Haberturk reported Tuesday.
Erdal Unal, allegedly a member of Revolutionary People’s Liberation Party/Front (DHKP/C), was detained by Italian police at a hotel in Mestre, a port on the Adriatic Sea by Venice, while on holiday with his family.
Unal is accused of being the perpetrator of the terror attack where two DHKP/C members took prosecutor Mehmet Selim Kiraz hostage in Istanbul on March 31.
The two militants and the prosecutor died in an exchange of fire after police forces stormed the court building in an effort to release Kiraz.
Turkey has demanded the extradition of Unal, wanted by Turkish police for an attack on a bank in 1995. Enditem
