Turkish Airlines is expected to start flying into Zimbabwe by the second quarter of 2019, Zimbabwe’s state broadcaster ZBC reported Friday.

This development followed discussions held by authorities from the two countries at the Turkey Travel Fair currently underway in the city of Izmir, said the ZBC.

Zimbabwe has made progress in courting Turkish business and bilateral trade deals could be deepened through a memorandum of understanding between the two nations’ tourism industries to be sealed on the sidelines of the travel fair, which is running from Dec. 6-8.

Environment, Tourism, and Hospitality Industry Minister Prisca Mupfumira is optimistic the brokered deal will pave way for Turkish Airlines to make its flights into the country by next year.

This may result in Zimbabwe tapping into the 26 billion U.S. dollars Turkish tourism industry, the minister said. Enditem
