The Trade Union Congress (TUC), said in Abuja on Friday that it was in full support of the impending national dialogue.

The National President of TUC, Bobboi Kaigama, made the remark at a news conference tagged: `State of the Nation?, on Friday.

“Social dialogue is an important ingredient of nation building and Nigeria must use the opportunity to give the country a new lease of life.??

The TUC president said Nigeria could only succeed despite its varied cultures, religions and ethnic nationalities by staying united.

“There is hope for this country and national conference is it. The TUC is in full support of it.??
Kaigama said there was need for the people to talk and agree on terms to boost the country?s unity and address her myriad of problems. He identified lack of unity as a major factor militating against the dream of the founding fathers of the country.

“As we cross over to 2014, politicians must reflect on the dynamics of true democracy and work toward the good life of the citizens. “We have come a long way but we have longer way to go.??

On incessant strikes by labour unions, he said government must learn to address threats of strikes before they become reality.
Kaigama called on government to quickly address the recent threat issued by unions in the oil sector.

“PENGASAN and NUPENG can cripple the nation?s economy if their threat is not addressed.??
Kaigama held that employees should be seen as partners in progress.
He assured Nigerians that unions would not embark on strikes as long as their demands were met in time.
