Truecaller has expanded its Family Protection feature to users worldwide, giving one designated person within a household the ability to receive real-time fraud alerts and remotely end suspicious calls on behalf of other family members before a scammer can cause harm.

The feature first launched in December in a small group of pilot markets including Sweden, Chile, Malaysia, and Kenya. After observing promising early results, the company decided to roll it out globally, including in India, which remains Truecaller’s largest market.

Under the system, the most digitally confident member of a family or friend group of up to five people becomes the designated administrator. When Truecaller’s platform detects a potential fraud call on a member’s phone, the administrator receives an alert and can remotely terminate the call from their own device, cutting off the conversation before pressure tactics take hold.

While the administrator can receive fraud alerts for both Android and iOS users within the group, the ability to remotely end a call is currently limited to Android devices only. On Android, group members can also grant the administrator permission to view basic device status indicators such as battery level, phone activity, and whether the device is set to silent mode.

Administrators can block specific numbers and international calling codes and share that blocklist across all members of the group. Truecaller confirmed that administrators cannot access the personal call history or SMS records of group members outside of fraud-related alerts.

Truecaller Chief Executive Officer Rishit Jhunjhunwala framed the feature as a fundamental shift in the company’s approach, saying: “Identifying who is calling is a 2010 solution. In 2026, the question is if the call is safe to answer.”

The global rollout comes as scams involving impersonation fraud and artificial intelligence (AI) voice cloning become more sophisticated and target entire households rather than individuals. Truecaller detects approximately 63 million scam attempts daily across its platform, drawing on community reports of around 166 million spam calls per day to build one of the largest datasets of phone-based fraud activity globally.

The Family Protection feature is free. Users who upgrade to a paid Premium Family plan receive additional benefits including advanced spam blocking, automatic rejection of high-risk numbers, and an ad-free experience covering all five group members.
