A 27 year old trader, Esther Bentil who allegedly stabbed her former boyfriend with a hacksaw on Monday appeared before an Accra Circuit Court charged with causing harm.

Esther allegedly absconded when she saw blood oozing from her boyfriend’s wounds.

Esther pleaded not guilty before the court presided over by Mrs Ruby Adjeley Quaison.

Prosecuting, Sergeant Opoku Anigyei prayed the court to remand the accused since there was a case of threat of death against her and that matter was still under investigations.

The court however admitted Esther to bail in the sum of GHC50,000.00 with two sureties. The sureties are to provide photo Identity Card and the case investigator has been ordered to verify their occupation and residential address.

It further ordered Esther to be reporting to the Domestic Violence and Victim’s Support Unit (DOVVSU)in Accra every Thursday and Friday until directed otherwise by the court.

The case has been adjourned to January 4, next year.

Prosecuting, Mr Anigyei said the complainant, Joshua Mensah is a mechanic and a lover of Esther who cohabited for seven months at La in Accra.

Prosecution said a misunderstanding ensued between the accused and Mensah of which Esther packed part of her belongings and left for her hometown.

The prosecution said on February 4, this year at about 0100 hours, Esther returned from her hometown to pack the remainder of her items from Mensah’s room,she subsequently asked Mensah to assist her to send the items to the roadside.

Prosecution said on their way, they two sat behind a building had a chat of which in the process, Esther tried to seduced Mensah.
He said a struggle ensued of which the complainant bolted.

The prosecution said Esther pursued Mensah to a muddy place where both of them slippers stuck in the mud but the complainant in the process of removing his slippers from the mud, Esther pulled out a hacksaw from her handbag and tried to stab Mensah at his back.

Prosecution said a struggle ensued of which Esther stabbed the left palm and right thumb of Mensah.

According to prosecution when Esther saw blood oozing from complainant’s wounds she absconded but the complainant managed to get to the house and proceeded to the Police at La to lodge a complaint. The matter was later transferred to DOVVSU, Accra.

Mensah was issued with a medical report form to seek treatment at a medical facility while Esther was later arrested by the Police.
