Six people have been confirmed dead and two missing after torrential rains hit Ghana’s capital, Accra, late Sunday, authorities said on Monday.

George Ayisa, spokesman for the National Disaster Management Organization, told Xinhua over the telephone that the six victims included two females and four males.

“The two females were traveling with a military officer when their vehicle skidded off the Accra-Tema Motorway during the rains, and they all lost their lives,” Ayisa said.

According to him, the other two drowned around the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange area, while one more victim was discovered in Ashaiman.

“Our search and rescue team is still making efforts to locate the two missing persons,” the official added.
