Ex-Ghana star Tony Yeboah

Tony Yeboah’s stupendous strike against Liverpool in the 1995/96 season is among ten wonderful pile drivers that have been nominated in the Barclays 20 seasons of Premier League goals.

This term marks the inception of the Premier League and to celebrate the marker, accolades will be awarded to those that have helped to make the competition the most watched on the globe.

The 25-yard screamer from the Ghanaian international during the clash against the Reds at Elland Road is among a list of ten other wonder goals that will compete for honours at the end of the season.

The former Eintracht Frankfurt attacker, who forged a reputation for scoring spectacular goals chested down a half-cleared ball, controlled it with his thigh, then inside of his left foot, used his knee and then smashed the ball from 25 yards, off the underside of the bar and in.

But the former Black Stars striker must fend off competition from goals from Manchester United legends Eric Cantona, David Beckham and Wayne Rooney to steal the show.

Arsenals legends Denis Bergkamp goal against Newcastle in the 2001/02 season and Thiery Henry’s stunning overhead kick against Manchester United in the 2000/01 is also in the frame for the top award.

Paolo Di Canio’s strike for West Ham against Wimbledon in the 1999/00 season has also been nominated while ex-Southampton super star Matt Le Tissier has two nominations.

His splendid strikes in the games against Newcastle and Blackburn Rovers in the 1993/94 and 1994/95 seasons respectively have earned the shot in the top ten.

Former Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United striker Shearer, who is the Premier League’s all-time leading scorer’s goal against Everton in the 2002/03 season, will prove a test case for the Ghanaian.
