The Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) on Monday presented scholarship packages to 100 needy but brilliant students studying in the various Senior High Schools (SHS) in the Tema Metropolitan area.
The scholarship packages, worth GH¢98,000.00 were presented to students who completed their Junior High School (JHS) education in the 2010/2011 and 2011/2012 academic years.
Beneficiaries of the scholarship packages were shortlisted from among 200 students, 100 each from the 2010/2011 and 2011/2012 academic years who applied for the facility after an interview.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Robert Kempes Ofosuware, the Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive hinted that the TMA would continue to help needy but brilliant students get the opportunity to pursue  higher education.
He said the assembly would continue to commit a chunk of its resources to award  scholarships to the  needy but brilliant students in particular and education in general within the metropolis.
Ofosuware appealed to the students to study hard to justify the reasons why they are proud recipients of the scholarship.He further appealed to them to work very hard so as to make their parents as well as the nation,  proud to help prepare them adequately for the future.
Chairperson of the scholarship interview panel and the Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the Tema Metropolitan Education Office, Mrs. Ivy Kumi called on parents to invest the last of their monies into the education of the their wards saying “Education is the best investment any parent can give to their children”.
Ms Irene Dede Tetteh, a student from Chemu Senior High School thanked TMA for the gesture on behalf of her colleagues and promised they would work hard to enjoy it till they complete their education.
Present at the gathering were the Nii Adjei Kraku III and Nii Tetteh Otu II, Tema and Kpone chiefs respectively.
