A statement signed by the director of security services in Abuja, Mohammed Mohammed, said intelligence report revealed Boko Haram had concluded plans to attack crowded places, particularly churches, mosques and markets, in the coming days, using teenage girls as suicide bombers.

It urged local residents to be vigilant and report suspicious persons to police.

On Oct. 2, two suicide attacks in Abuja killed 20 people and injured many others.

Boko Haram has used girls to carry out a series of suicide bombings in Nigeria.

It has killed some 13,000 people and kidnapped hundreds since it launched its campaign of violence in 2009, trying to establish an Islamist state.

Nigerian troops have retaken most of the territory previously held by Boko Haram in operations this year, but blasts persist, causing heavy civilian casualties.
