South African elite police Hawks said on Monday that they arrested three people in Johannesburg for dealing in rhino horns as well as contravention of endangered species regulations.

Hawks spokesperson Hangwani Mulaudzi said the three men were arrested during a three-day operation involving police and the South African National Parks.


The arrests were made on Saturday in Randburg, where police seized five rhino horns, 14 pieces of abalone, three seahorse, two sea cucumbers, vehicles and weighing and processing equipment, Mulaudzi said.

The three are expected in court on Monday. Enditem
