A blogger was hacked to death by three attackers in central Dhaka, police said Monday, just over a month after a well-known US-based writer was killed in the Bangladeshi capital.

wpid-knife-450343640.jpg, 30, was attacked with sharp weapons in Dhaka’s Tejgaon area, police officer Masudur Rahman said. Doctors pronounced him dead after he was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, he said.

“We were informed that he was a regular writer on an internet blogging site, however, the subject of his writing is yet to be examined,” said Rahman.

Sub-inspector Humayun Kabir said they had captured two suspects from near the scene. The suspects are students of a religious school, he said, adding that a machete used in the attack was also seized.

The attack comes just over a month after a Bangladeshi-born US blogger, Avijit Roy, was hacked to death by unidentified assailants after attending an annual book fair at Dhaka University.

Bangladeshi investigators believe Roy was attacked on February 26 by the members of an extremist group.

Rajib Hyder, another atheist blogger, was killed in a similar attack in early 2013 in Dhaka.
