Brenda Fassie, known as the Queen of African Pop died in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Brenda Fassie was born in the township of Langa, Cape Town, South Africa on 3rd November 1964, three and a half years after people in Sharpeville and Langa were massacred on 21st March 1960 for peacefully protesting against apartheid pass laws.

Despite troubles that plague many who enter the music industry, as a child born in the apartheid era, Brenda Fassie’s music was rooted in the experience of people in the townships.
