Contrary to reports doing round that Bawku is experiencing secret attacks,   the Bawku Police Command in the Upper East Region says the municipal capital is peaceful.
According to the Bawku Divisional Crime Officer, DSP Seidu Adamu, there is no tension or any rising tension in Bawku, the place is calm as any other place you can think of peace.
“There was an incident like that, but as at now I cannot give you any details, I am in town but I haven’t been able to meet the victim,” he added.
It was reported that residents of the Bawku municipality were living in fear, following secret attacks perpetrated by unidentified people.
A young man identified as Shaibu Atia, was attacked in the evening on Sunday leaving him with several cutlass wounds.
Shaibu Atia is currently responding to treatment at the Presbyterian Hospital at Bawku
Stephen Atubigah, an opinion leader recounted on a local radio station that there have been strange attacks in the Bawku township lately “and just last night a young man who was on his way to visit his sick wife at the hospital was attacked and wounded seriously.”
The opionion leader also noted that three days ago the same incident happened, but not with cutlasses, that individual was attacked and beaten badly but yesterday evening’s attack brewed tension in the Bawku Municipality.
“I am trying not to push it directly to chieftaincy, but I believe people are trying to use that to make sure is one way either to disrupt the ongoing biometric registration exercise for their own interest or to destabilise the peace of the area,” he said.
