Brahmagiri Hills in Coorg is one of the highest hills on the Western Ghats and lies on the border of Kerala and Karnataka.  It is 1608 m above the sea level. The flora and fauna of the place is noteworthy. December to February is the best time to visit this place. It is 270 km away from Bangalore. When you visit the hills, make sure that you take a guide along with you, so that you do not miss the important places.

The animals that are found here are Emerald Dove, Black Bulbul, Malabar Trogon, Common Otter, Mouse Deer, Bonnet Macaque, Wild Dog, Leopard Cat, common Langur, Pangolin, Cobra, Mongoose, Sambar, Tiger and Elephant.

There are different ways to reach the Brahmagiri Hills. Booking online bus tickets is mandatory to make the journey a comfortable one.

Bus tickets online reservation has to be done earlier to avoid the waiting list. You can reach the Brahmagiri Hills either from Bangalore or from Kerala. From Bangalore, you can hire a bus that goes to Gonikkoppal. From there, you can buy bus tickets to Srimangala.

On the way, you can visit Irrupu Falls and then reach the magnificent Brahmagiri Hills. The other way to reach Brahmagiri Hills is by car. From Bangalore, take the route as follows: Srirangapatna – Hunsur -Gonikkopal. From Kerala, you need to reach the place called Kutta first and then you can purchase bus tickets to Kattikulam and then to Thirunelli. If the tourists wish to go for trekking, then Narimale Guest house is the best one. For stay, Mananthavady is the right place.

There are a number of places to see in and around the Brahmagiri Hills such as Irrupu Falls, Thirunnelai Temple, and Pakshipathalam.  Thirunnelai temple is said to be built by Lord Brahma.

Vishnu is the deity worshipped in this well-known temple. The Papanashini stream flows nearby and there is a belief that having bath in the stream will wash away all the sins. It is rightly said that the Brahmagiri hills is the patron of this magnificent temple. It is also known as the Dakshina Kasi. 

Pakshipathalam caves are haven for migratory birds. This is also called as Munikal Caves. A trek to these caves is simply amazing. It is the right place to witness the avian species.

Irrupu Falls originates from Lakshamana Tritha River. Trekking is the best thing to do at the Brahmagiri Hills. There is a story behind this falls. Lord Rama and Lord Lakshamana were in search of Sita and when Lord Rama felt thirsty, Lakshama hit an arrow at the Brahmagiri Hills and the river came into picture.
