Growing up Ghanaian-American journalist and novelist Nana Ekua Brew-Hammond wrote stories to the surprise and amusement of her peers and older folks alike.

It?s therefore no surprise she finally got to take it a notch higher, recording enormous success in the last few years.

Brew-Hammond was born in 1977 in New York, United States Of America to Ghanaian parents and has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Africana Studies. She believes that writing helps validate people?s experience and feelings, builds bridges of understanding and also preserves history and culture.

She is motivated to write stories because she loves and feels the need to write because they serve an immensely important function in society.

Her first book ?Powder Necklace? a book about her experiences of leaving the United States of America to live and school in Ghana at the age of 12 was released by Simon and Schuser?s Washington Square Press Imprint in April 2010.

She has written for a range of news, style and culture publications and websites including Ebony Magazine , JET Magazine , Parenting Magazine , Ethiopian Airlines? Selamta Magazine  , EBONY.com , MadameNoire,com and NBC blog TheGrio.com .

Brew-Hammond and her team won the Webby Award for working on the Avaya Snapshots campaign . She speaks Ewe , Twi , Fante and Ga .

She currently is a resident of New York where she works as a copywriter , novelist and a journalist .
