Professional golfers from across Ghana will converge on Tema next week for the first major tournament of the year, with GH¢100,000 in prize money and a coveted national title on the line.
The Centre of the World Golf Club in Tema will host the Professional Golfers Association (PGA) Heritage Cup 2026 from March 18 to March 21, marking the opening flagship event of the year on the Ghana PGA calendar. The tournament has been timed to coincide with National Heritage Month, adding symbolic significance to an already competitive occasion.
Competition will be staged across two categories. Regular professionals will play all four days of the championship, while senior professionals will contest over three days, with both groups competing at the same venue throughout the tournament.
Beyond the prize money, the tournament carries the prestige of the Heritage Cup trophy, which has become one of the most sought-after titles in domestic professional golf. The final day of the championship will also feature a separate amateur competition, with over 40 amateur golfers set to tee off alongside the professionals.
PGA Ghana Tournament Director Eric Henaku confirmed that preparations at the Tema venue are well advanced. He noted that the announcement of the tournament has already pushed many participants into intensive individual training sessions as they fine-tune their games ahead of the championship.
Reports from clubs around the country indicate that golfers based in Accra in particular have stepped up their preparation and are eager to perform strongly. Several players returning from competitive outings in 2025 are expected to use the tournament to build ranking points and establish early momentum for the year ahead.
The Centre of the World Golf Club, formerly known as Tema Country Golf Club, has been positioned for development into a world-class leisure resort capable of hosting PGA-certified tournaments, with the venue’s unique geographic distinction, being the closest inhabited location to the intersection of the Greenwich Meridian and the Equator, adding international appeal to events held there.
