A Ho Circuit Court presided over by Madam Priscilla Dikro has fined Stephen Akukumah, a taxi driver, GHC 1,440 for “careless driving” that killed one and injured another.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Richard Nyarko Hadzi told the court that on April 21, 2016, Akukumah was in charge of an Opel Astra taxi with registration number GR-9933-Q, driving from Sokode Gbogame towards Abutia with tree persons on board.

He said on reaching a section of the road at Bame near Abutia, he tried to overtake a tipper-truck without observing another on-coming tipper-truck and hit a motorbike and its rider on the side.

The prosecutor said one Meliba Kwasi, the motor rider died at the hospital, same day and Renatus Agbodza, a pillion rider sustaining varied degrees of injury.

Madam Dikro found Akukumah guilty on his own plea and said because he catered for the injured and buried the deceased, she considered his plea for mercy and fined him 50 for inconsiderate driving and 70 penalty and negligently causing harm.
