Tanzanian police on Tuesday arrested Zitto Kabwe, leader of opposition ACT-Wazalendo, for allegedly uttering seditious words, a senior official of the party said.

ACT-Wazalendo spokesperson Abdallah Khamis said Zitto was detained at Chang’ombe police station in the east African nation’s commercial capital Dar es Salaam for questioning.

Khamis said police claimed that the politician uttered seditious words at a public rally at Kunduchi on the outskirts of the commercial capital.

Zitto recently accused authorities of issuing cooked statistics on the country’s economy, an accusation the authorities refuted. Enditem
