Tanzanian police on Sunday arrested a senior opposition leader over what they described as illegal tour.

Police arrested Ibrahim Lipumba, chairman of opposition party, Civic United Front (CUF), for visiting Handeni district in Tanga region without a valid permit.

Masoud Mhina, CUF director of intelligence, said Lipumba was arrested at Segera village and sent to Handeni district central police station for questioning.

Mhina said Lipumba was arrested shortly before he was scheduled to inaugurate the opposition party’s office branch at Segera. Enditem
